Corporate History
Just what is it that we do, and
why?
Gastric Wombat Systems came about in 1992 as a result of John
Douglas's need for a company to do contract programming. Gastric
Wombats was primarily based in Sydney, Australia, but
later moved it's head office to Tokyo, and then to London,
where it remains today. With a current staff of 19 people, Gastric
Wombats has spread to almost all parts of the globe.
What:
Gastric Wombat Systems main objective is to
do as little as possible, whilst expending the least amount of money doing
it, and to have a bloody good time doing so. To this end, the company is
proud to sponsor corporate cocktails each Friday evening on the balcony of
the 2nd floor at company headquarters in London. This is open to all staff
and invited guests. If you would like to become an invited guest, there is
the small formality of submitting a written application, accompanied of
course by the not-insubstantial application fee. Further information may
be gained by looking at yourself in the mirror and asking "Do I
really want to give these no-hopers £2000 just to
have a glass of Cloudy Bay on a small balcony in London?"
You'll soon come to your senses.
Early on Wombats main role was to produce computer
software, but this has since fallen by the way. One of the key functions
of Gastric Wombat Systems now is the pursuit of
photography on almost any subject. While John prefers portraiture
and motorcycle racing, Mari's forte leans towards doors and
traditional Japanese themes.
Another key element to Gastric Wombat Systems
success is it's DTP operation. Able to produce line art in Illustrator,
photo retouching in Photoshop, and document layouts in PageMaker, both Mari
& John have over six years experience in producing technical
manuals, documentation, brochures, and advertisements in both English and
Japanese. More recently, we've started producing HTML code combining
skills in graphics, layout and programming.
