Dive Timer ---------- This is for people like me who hate trying to do chronological arithmetic. Probably you're better at this than me and you'll forever wonder why someone might need a program like this. What does it do: I'm useless at calculating time. My dive computer tells me that I entered the water at 13:28 and I dived for 47 minutes, so then I sit there staring at my log book trying to conjure up the information my dive computer doesn't give me: my exit time and my total accumulated dive time. Forget it! Now there's a program to help you. Not only that, but if you enter in you total accumulated dive time to date, then when you hit "calculate" the dive time will be added to your total. Click "next dive" to clear the feilds and move the accumulated total up to the accumulated total to date. The program has been written so that you don't need to use the mouse. The keyboard will do just fine, simply tab between feilds, and press enter to click the currently highlighted button. An example: Say you do 3 dives in a day and you want to enter them into your log book. Fire up "dive timer" and enter the start time for dive one: 1045 You don't need to enter any formatting characters, the program will do this for you. Enter all times in the 24 hour clock. The program will take 1045 as 10:45 in the morning. 1643 as 16:43 or 43 minutes past 4 in the afternoon. Now press tab, and enter the dive duration in hours/minutes. 43 will be formatted as 0:43 or 43 minutes. 123 will become 1:23 or 1 hour and 23 minutes. Press tab again and enter your accumulated dive time to date in hours and minutes. 1234 will format to 12:34 or 12 hours and 34 minutes. 123456 will be 1234:56 and so on. Now press enter (you'll see that the calculate button is highlighted meaning this is the default) and the exit time will display as the start time plus dive duration. The total dive time including this dive will display also. Press enter again (note that the "next dive" button is highlighted now) to clear all feilds and have the total dive time including this dive transfer up into the total dive time to date feild. Now you're ready to enter dive 2... All you need to enter from now on in this session are your start times and durations (tabbing between them) pressing enter to calculate each one, and enter again to calculate the next dive times. That's it. I hope you find this of use, I don't expect any payment for this, I wrote it to simplify filling out my log book! Drop me an e-mail if you have any questions/comments or suggestions. I've thought about expanding it and having the program file the information away including comments, location and various other details, but I really wanted to use it to assist filing out my paper log book, not replace it. Besides, it's a bit trickey taking a computer based log away on holiday to use as proof of experience! Still, let me know what you think.
